Fun facts about Lions🦁

Lions are so big and scary but here are some fun facts about lions.

Lions are the only big cats to live in groups, called prides. Prides consists of family groups. A pride can consist of 15-40 members. They work together to defend their territory and hunt.
The females in the pride are likely to do majority of the hunting. They work as a group and use intelligent hunting tactics to catch prey.

Lions might be just some wild animals but there are some fun facts to these creatures.

1. The Lion’s Mane; The mane of the male lion is a distinctive characteristic of lions as no other big cats have them. It makes male lions appear larger, which allows them to be more intimidating. It also signals sexual maturity and health status; lionesses tend to favour denser and darker manes.

2. Lion’s as a symbol of strength; Lions are symbols of strength and courage and have been celebrated throughout history for these characteristics. They are also common symbols for royalty and stateliness.

3. The Lion’s Dialect; Lions communicate through a range of behaviours and their expressive movements are very highly developed. They perform peaceful tactile actions such as licking each other and rubbing heads. Head rubbing, or nuzzling, is a common greeting behaviour for lions. They also communicate through a variety of vocalisations including purrs, miaws, hissing and snarls. Their vocalisations also vary in intensity and pitch.

4. Lion’s can go four(4) days with no water; Lions can go up to four days without drinking water, but they need to eat everyday. Adult female lions need to eat about 11 pounds of meat each day, while adult males eat 16 pounds or more every day.

5. Lion’s as hunters; A lion has many physical characteristics that make it a superb hunter. The vision of a lion, for example, is about six times more sensitive to light than a human’s. This gives lions advantage when hunting at night. A lion’s claws are retractable, allowing for the excellent control.

With all these greatness it’s easy to see why the lion is referred to as the “king of the jungle”, which leads us to our next fact.

6. Lion’s don’t live in jungles; Lions do not live in jungles but matter of fact, they live in the savannas, grassland and open woodland.

7. How big an adult Lion measures; Did you know those claws are pretty big? When fully extended, a lion’s claws can measure 1 1/2 inches in length. Lions can also reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and jump up to 36 feet in length. The body of the lion is 1.4-1.9m long excluding tail. They weigh 120-240 kg (males larger than females)

Lions are incredible animals but it is sad that that are under a threat of extinction. Only 20,000 wild lions remain in Africa, which is half of what it was only 30 years ago. Scientists predict that wild lions could face extinction by 2050 if trends continue and humans don’t put more efforts to protect these amazing and powerful animals.

The main threats to lions are lion/human conflict, loss of territory and trophy hunting. As a traveler, you can do your part by traveling to national parks and game reserves that put resources toward protecting Africa’s lions.

Keeping your lips healthy!

Your lips won’t look soft, pink, and plump without paying a little extra attention to the skin on your mouth. It is amazing to have good looking lips but, are they healthy? Keep reading for a few ways to keep those babies healthy and sumptuous! Trust me, nobody likes their lips unhealthy, dehydrated or chapped. Also our lips are the most delicate part of our face which have no oil glands of their own and hence adding a little external moisture is very important to keep them healthy.

Let’s pump these babies!!!

1. Keep your lips💋 moist: This will always be the first of the pink lips tips that you will ever get. Dryness and chapping of Lips is one big turn off and if it’s not treated at the right time, it causes dark and pigmented lips. Lip balms are of great essence as they are always handy, apply it frequently through the day. Avoid Petrolatum or Petroleum based Lip balms as they don’t come out beneficial most times. Ingredients like Vitamin E, Glycerine, Almond Oil, Natural beeswax and Cadillac Wax, should be present in your balms. Or simply apply Vitamin E oil before going to bed.

2. Drink water💦 darling: Staying hydrated brings out a pinkish tinge and a juicy look to the lips, while dry lips look exactly the opposite, dark and dull. Keeping yourself hydrated will combat the dryness on the lips whether winter or summer. Only external application of Moisture is not enough, internal hydration is very essential.

3. Let’s scrub-a-dub🍯: Don’t scrub too hard!!! You can make a Sugar lip scrub, mix in some granulated sugar with Petroleum jelly or your Lip balm, mix it well and apply a layer on your lips. Scrub your lips in a circular motion and wipe off with a damp cloth or cotton. Lip scrubbing helps you to get rid of the dead cells around the lips. There are ways of scrubbing lips, you can just put on some plain, heavy Lip balm or even clarified butter before bed time and scrub of the dead cell with a tooth brush next morning while brushing.

4. Avoid Sun☀ exposure: Darkening of the lips may happen due to the presence of excess melanin pigment in the lips. The sun is known to increase the synthesis of melanin in the body. It is advisable to protect oneself from these harmful rays of the sun by using lip products like lip balms to ensure pink and healthy lips.

So easy right!!!

Say a neighbor or a friend passes a twisted comment. How would you react? Would you take it personally, feel bad about it, take it to heart or just simply let it slide? Letting irrelevant and small things bother you for days, weeks or sometimes much longer, is you accommodating negative thoughts.

Handling negative thoughts can be draining. One way you can deal with negative thoughts is by replacing them with thoughts that make you feel better. Assuming you put in all your life savings into an investment but it doesn’t work out and you loose all the money, you might tell yourself “I can never recover from this” or “I’ll never be able to raise such amount of money again”. It will end up making you feeling more wretched and discouraged instead of giving you more strength.

This kind of thought can make you feel better and more hopeful.

If you’re telling yourself something that makes you feel bad, remember: You are in charge of what you tell yourself. Sometimes it’s hard to even know if you’re having negative thoughts or not. Just take a moment and listen to your thoughts to see if you do. The weight of these thoughts are likely to affect you negatively.

5 Tips to help handle your negative thoughts!

1. Be conscious of your thoughts: As soon as you find negative thoughts crawling your mind, block them out.

Some Kitchen mistakes We Make On A Daily!

The creative cook can often cook his/her way out of a kitchen error, but the smart cook aims to prevent such creativity from being necessary.

Cooking sure is amazing but there might be some mistakes you have to look out for when you are in the kitchen.

1. You don’t preheat your oven adequately: Preheating isn’t always necessary but it is essential for many baked goods like cakes, muffins, pies and breads. Get the oven fully heated for about 20 minutes before putting in your pastries.

2. You don’t prepare before cooking: To make things easier, before lunch or dinner, I get everything ready. I peel potatoes, chop spring onions, mince meat, slice tomatoes, peel garlic. Sometimes you tend to do everything at once and the results can be chaotic. Prepare, then cook. It’s more relaxing and you’re can avoid just about enough mistakes.

3. You don’t use a cutting board: This one seems so basic we don’t really care about it, but it turns out that quite a number of people use their counter tops to slice, mince and chop. Others just make use of there hands (can you imagine that in this world). That’s a big no-no. You’re exposing yourself to accidents, the counter tops are bad for your knives and can potentially cause cross-contamination. Please, use a cutting board.

4. You turn the food too often: Learning to leave food alone is one of the hardest lessons in cooking; it’s so tempting to turn and flip. But your jollof rice won’t come out nice unless you allow it cook for the specified time, undisturbed.

5. You don’t taste as you go: For most cooks, tasting is automatic. I happen to know someone who makes this mistake over and over again, you going ahead to skip this must be for a price. Always make sure to taste so you know just about what you are putting into your pot. Healthy eating is Healthy living.

6. You don’t know when to abandon ship and start over: There’s no shame in making a mistake; we all do. Even though it feels a bit wasteful to throw food in the trash, throwing out salty soups, badly turned swallow, or burnt oil is the right thing to do. Start all over (if you have some extra ingredients left). If you don’t, you’ll serve a disappointing meal, and you know it’s disappointing!

7. You underbake cakes and breads: Cakes, brownies, and breads turn out gummy and pallid when you underbake. It’s better you slightly overcook your food than producing gummy, unappealing and underbaked food.
Overcooked baked goods disappoint, but research has it that less experienced bakers are more likely to undercook them. “You won’t get that irresistible browning unless you have the confidence to fully cook the food,” food editor Julianna Grimes says. Practice this a few times and know exactly what you’re looking for, it automatically becomes a second nature.

Amazing Self Improvement Tips To Live By

For the past years, I’ve had to deal with developmental crisis. Having no knowledge about personal development made matters hard to handle. I found myself questioning decisions I had made, wondering if I was wrong or not. I lost interest in things I enjoyed doing.

With the way things were going, I had to talk to someone. A friend suggested I take a look at self development books and I did. Starting with a book by Mark Manson “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck”! I must tell you that after reading that book, all I wanted to do was fill myself with more and more.

Personal Development is something I fell in love with, something everyone should sort after. I love sharing ideas of how one can develop his/her self. Here are a few effective tips to Live by.

  1. Set goals for yourself: Setting goals is the best way to keep moving forward in life and ensure you’re able to achieve your dreams.
  2. Put down your goals in ink: While you’re setting goals for yourself, be sure to write them down. Recently, researchers have proved that people that write down their goals where they can see them are more likely to follow through with them.
  3. Create a monthly budget: When it comes to managing your money, creating a monthly budget could be of immense help. No, it’s not going to be that easy. But it will be soon enough when you have extra cash to spare.
  4. Draft a five year plan: Planning anything five years in advance might sound ridiculous. But making a draft of your plan for the next five years is actually really useful in helping you to set goals for yourself.
  5. Identify your weaknesses: I like to see my weaknesses as a blind spot. When it comes to personal development, blind spots are things about ourselves that we can’t see, but are weaknesses that need improvement. Once you can identify those, you can really learn to overcome them!
  6. Adapt healthy habits. Our habits make up basically most of our life. That is to say if your life is filled with unhealthy habits, you’re living an unhealthy life. Adapting new and healthy habits can be of great help to your life in general.
  7. Read personal development books: Personal development books are deal breakers for me. No matter what you’re struggling with in life, you’ll be able to find a book that will be of help.
  8. Ask for feedback: No one likes getting face on with criticism, but it’s also how we grow! Ask your significant other, family, friends, coworkers, etc for feedback and you might actually learn a lot about yourself. And then you can use that feedback to grow as a person!
  9. Pay attention to your thoughts: It’s important to be in control of what’s going on in your mind. If you’re constantly talking down to yourself or others or having negative thoughts, it’s important to notice that and refrain from such thoughts.
  10. Let go of the past: There are plenty of things in my past that brought me unhappiness, and I’m glad to be past them. When I find myself thinking about it, it just makes me sad all over again! So I decide to push them aside and let go. You can’t change the past, but you can stop it from leaving negative impacts on your life.
  11. Focus on one thing at a time: Our brain is not capable of multitasking. When you multitask, you’re really just jumping from task to task without giving anything your full undivided attention.
  12. Plan your days and weeks ahead: I am always so much more productive when I have planned my days and weeks ahead of time. Otherwise, I’m always a little less motivated and not entirely sure what I’m supposed to be working on!
  13. Keep your home and workspace neat: When my environment is trashy, I tend to get a little worked up. And clutter actually decreases your productivity! Keeping my home and workspace organized gives me more time to focus on other things, rather than getting distracted by my surroundings.
  14. Be adaptable: What got you to where you are now in life isn’t the same as what is going to get you to where you want to go. Find out who you need to become in order to achieve your goals, and then become that person. Remain adaptable along the way.
  15. Learn to forgive: If you’re still hanging onto anger and resentment from the past, learn to forgive and let it go. You aren’t hurting the person you’re angry at, only yourself!
  16. Stop the self comparisons: No good comes from comparing yourself to someone else. You are on different journeys. Rather than comparing yourself with others, compare yourself with your past self to see how much you have grown.

The few tips for self improvement in this post might be just for you.
